Dillard Lester Wood

Dillard Lester Wood, age 77 of Martinsville, Virginia, transitioned to his heavenly home Thursday, September 24, 2026.

Mr. Wood was born in Commerce, Georgia, to the late Esco and Leila (Pruitt) Wood. He attended Martinsville Church of Truth. He retired from Baldor Electric, Athens, Georgia, after 42 years of service. In addition to his parents, Mr. Wood was preceded in death by one grandchild and eight of his thirteen siblings.

Mr. Wood is survived by his wife, Derenda (Gordon) Wood; a daughter, Teresa (Wood) Lopez (Juan); eight grandchildren, Philip Lopez, Isaac Lopez, Anna Lopez, Joshua Lopez, Samuel Dillard Lopez, Alyssa Lopez, Benjamin Lopez, all of Caruthers, California, and Kara (Lopez) Sierra (Joey) , of Lemoore. California; sisters, Gladys Palmer (John) of Nicholson, Georgia, and Patsy Wilbanks (Johnny) of Maysville, Georgia; brothers, Gene Wood of Nicholson, Georgia, Bill Wood (Carol) of Commerce, Georgia, Danny Wood (Cathy) of Winterville, Georgia and a number of nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be at 2:00 PM, Friday, October 2, 2026, at Martinsville Church of Truth, 1376 Joseph Martin Hwy, Martinsville, Virginia 24112 with Pastor Bill Preskitt officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.

An additional funeral service will be at 11:00 AM, Monday, October 5, 2026, at Galilee Holiness Church, 989 Jot Em Down Rd., Danielsville, Georgia 30633 with Pastor Bill Preskitt officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. The burial will follow at Danielsville Memorial Gardens, 395 Sunset Drive, Danielsville, Georgia 30633.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that memorial gifts be made to support the prison ministry of Rev. & Mrs. Dennis Morgan of Lower Lights Ministries, who have faithfully ministered in numerous prisons throughout several states for decades.

Monetary gifts may be made through the Martinsville Church of Truth, via the website www.mcotva.com and will be forwarded directly to Rev. & Mrs. Morgan in support of their prison ministry.
